Dr. Sonya McKinzie is a beacon of resilience, compassion, and visionary leadership. Honored as the 2025 Georgia Mother of the Year® by American Mothers, she is a devoted single mother to her daughter, whom she calls her greatest gift from God. Born and raised in Brunswick, Georgia, Dr. McKinzie has transformed personal adversity into a powerful mission of healing and empowerment.

A survivor of domestic violence, PTSD, and anxiety, Dr. McKinzie’s journey is one of profound transformation. After relocating to Marietta, Georgia in 2003 to reclaim her life, she pursued higher education with unwavering determination—earning degrees in Business Administration, Business Management, and Human Services Counseling, along with multiple certifications in victim advocacy, leadership, and trauma recovery.

Dr. McKinzie is the Founder and Executive Director of ThriveHER Inc., formerly the Women of Virtue Transitional Foundation. Since 2016, ThriveHER has served as a sanctuary for women and girls affected by abuse, offering resources, education, and a platform for healing. Her work has been instrumental in legislative advocacy through the Marsy’s Law Movement, and she is a certified trauma and recovery life coach.

An accomplished author of 13 books centered on healing and empowerment, Dr. McKinzie continues to inspire through her writing and public speaking. Her forthcoming project, The Blueprint of a ThriveHER, reflects her commitment to uniting women through shared stories of strength and survival.
